Curridabat Area

This Eastern “Canton” of San Jose owes its name to the Native Chieftain Corrirava (circa 1550 AD), having remained for nearly 400 years as one of the less populated areas in the Central Valley.

By the middle of the 20th century it finally gains an increased number of inhabitants as coffee plantations attracted settlers from the adjacent towns. Curridabat nowadays represents finely the merge of traditional Costa Rican values and the globalized world; residential areas, important shopping centers, restaurants and bars crowd the area while maintaining the equilibrium between Tico lifestyle and modern adequacies.

Plaza del Sol, Plaza Cristal and Multiplaza del Este are perhaps the biggest attractions present and make also for the largest revenue source within the entire oriental commercial circuit.
